How this site is made

Where the facts come from

Every major page carries a fact block from that major's entry in the Penn State University Bulletin, and links to that entry directly. The program name, the degree type, and the campus where the degree is completed come from the Bulletin. Most Smeal programs can be started at many campuses; the page reports only where the degree is finished, so the Bulletin entry remains the authority on how a program is actually structured.

The source list

Beyond the Bulletin, the site draws on a published list of 8 sources. Every entry points at a specific document rather than a homepage, and the list is shown in full on the sources page. The count you just read is computed from that list, not typed by hand.

How the content is written

The prose on the major and Learn pages was written by club members in March 2026 and carried here unchanged. It predates the writing standard the repository now holds, and it carries no inline citations. Rewriting it against that standard is the next piece of work on this site, and until that happens this page would rather say so than claim otherwise.

The standard is in the repository, and it applies to what gets written from here on. It asks that each page start from the field's own concerns rather than from the technology, that limits be described in the discipline's own terms, that the writing describe rather than instruct, and that claims carry a citation. The news articles are the pages that currently meet the last of those: each one ends with the sources it was written from.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us. The site is maintained in the open and pages are revised as fields change and as the Bulletin is updated.
